The Northern Beaches journey begins in Manly, where the ferry ride across Sydney Harbour creates one of the most memorable arrivals in Australia. Stepping off near the Corso, the city quickly gives way to a relaxed seaside atmosphere of cafés, boutiques, ocean air and wide beachfront views.
From Manly, the coastline continues north into Freshwater and Curl Curl, where the pace begins to soften. Freshwater offers a classic village beach feeling, while Curl Curl opens into a broader stretch of sand, surf and coastal walking.
This first section is the perfect introduction to the Northern Beaches lifestyle — close enough to Sydney to feel connected, yet coastal enough to feel like a proper escape.
PART II · DEE WHY, COLLAROY & NARRABEEN
Long Beaches, Ocean Views and Relaxed Coastal Living
Continuing north, Dee Why brings a lively beachfront atmosphere with cafés, restaurants and a long sweep of sand that makes it one of the Northern Beaches’ most practical and enjoyable bases.
Collaroy and Narrabeen feel more open and relaxed, with long surf beaches, gentle coastal walking and easy access to Narrabeen Lagoon. This is where the Northern Beaches begin to feel wider, calmer and more residential.
Long Reef Headland adds one of the region’s most beautiful viewpoints, with panoramic ocean outlooks and a strong sense of space. It is an ideal area for home swap guests who want beach access, local cafés and a slower Sydney coastal lifestyle.
PART III · MONA VALE TO PALM BEACH
The Northern Beaches at Their Most Beautiful
The final stretch of the journey moves into some of Sydney’s most scenic coastal villages. Mona Vale offers a relaxed beachside rhythm, while Avalon brings boutique shopping, cafés and a peaceful village atmosphere close to the ocean.
Whale Beach feels more tucked away, with a quieter, more private coastal character. It is one of those places where the scenery feels elevated, calm and beautifully removed from the city.
The journey finishes at Palm Beach, where ocean, Pittwater, headlands and iconic coastal views come together. With the Barrenjoey Lighthouse walk, calm water on one side and surf on the other, Palm Beach is a fitting finale to the Northern Beaches.
